The Teacher’s Corner
Welcome!
The Pulitzer Center has partnered with the Choices Program at Brown University’s Watson Institute to develop lesson plans around the “Reports from East Africa” section of this site. Click on the image below to see the two-day lesson plan the Choices Program has developed to help students understand the challenges faced by people living in East Africa.
On day one, students learn how water shortage in East Africa affects people’s lives and consider whether water shortage is a local issue or a global one. On day two, students work in groups as they take on the role of stakeholders in the issue of water use in southern Ethiopia.
You are welcome to adapt these lessons to suit your classroom needs. You may also choose to develop your own lesson plan around these materials. We’re eager to see what you develop, and share it with other teachers who may find this useful. We invite you to forward your adaptations or new lessons to us so we share them with your peers. Send to globalgateway@pulitzercenter.org
You can find an overview of the content and functionality of the site in the User’s guide.
In the coming weeks we’ll be launching a forum where teachers can share lesson plans, best practices, and ask questions. To join, contact globalgateway@pulitzercenter.org.
Thanks for joining our effort to raise awareness of global issues, and news, in the classroom. We look forward to working with you!
